What's Included in Every Installation
Each door takes 45-75 minutes: we remove the old deadbolt, install and align the new hardware, adjust the strike plate so the bolt throws smoothly (the #1 cause of smart-lock failures is a misaligned strike, not the electronics), connect the lock to your Wi-Fi, set up the app, invite family members, and walk you through the features before we pack up. If your door needs prep — a non-standard bore, a worn edge, a backset issue — we tell you on the spot and fix what can be fixed in the same visit.
Which Lock Should You Choose?
We install what you choose — and if you haven't chosen yet, we've written honest comparisons from the installs we actually do: the 2026 smart lock comparison (Schlage Encode Plus vs Kwikset Halo Touch vs Yale Assure 2, by household type) and deadbolt vs smart lock if you're not sure you need one at all. The short answer for most Fort Collins homes: Schlage Encode Plus if you want the most robust all-rounder, Kwikset Halo Touch for the budget-friendly fingerprint option, Yale Assure 2 for Apple-home households.
Renters, Landlords & Property Managers
Renters: get the landlord's written OK, and we'll keep your original hardware intact for move-out restoration. Landlords and property managers: smart locks turn every turnover from a locksmith visit into a code change — our property manager rekey playbook covers when that math works, and our residential service handles mixed portfolios of smart and mechanical locks on one schedule.
Smart Lock Installation — Common Questions
How much does smart lock installation cost in Fort Collins?
If you supply the lock, installation labor runs $120-$180 per door. Turnkey — hardware plus installation — runs $310-$430 depending on the model (Schlage Encode Plus at the top of that range, Kwikset Halo Touch at the bottom). A typical installation on our published price list is $145-$285.
How long does the installation take?
45-75 minutes per door. That includes hardware installation, strike plate adjustment, Wi-Fi connection, app setup, family member invites, and a 15-minute feature walkthrough before we leave.
Can I buy the lock myself and have you install it?
Yes — that's the $120-$180 labor-only option. Before you buy, check that your door has a standard 2-1/8" bore; if you're unsure, send us a photo and we'll confirm compatibility for free.
Do smart locks need Wi-Fi?
The models we install work over Bluetooth even when Wi-Fi is down — remote access and voice assistants are what need the Wi-Fi connection. We connect and test both during installation.
I'm renting — can I install a smart lock?
Usually yes, with the landlord's written OK. We keep your original hardware intact so the door can be restored at move-out, and we can rekey the backup cylinder ($25-$35) so old keys stop working.
